He has enjoyed “getting to really dig deep with my actors and bring out all the nuance and fun that is in the script,”walrath said.

“I've always liked the movie, and getting the chance to lead my actors on this journey was very appealing,” said Walrath, himself a veteran SCT director and performer.

The “Terms of Endearment” play is very actorfocused, Walrath said.

“It is not done like a traditional play. It's different acting areas and not real locations like the movie. This show is all about the acting,” Walrath said.

The show's blend of humor and emotional moments will appeal to audiences, said Williams.

“Those who enjoy a good tear-jerker and drama will especially love this show,” Williams said. “But don't be fooled by the seriousness of the story -you'll find yourself laughing, too.”

Tickets for the opening night performance on Feb. 16 are nearly sold out, and the remaining performances are selling briskly, though several seats are still available, said Gabe Smith, SCT executive director.

With adult themes and strong language, “Terms of Endearment”is intended for mature audiences.
