Elks move Leonard to active roster

Weatherspoon gets Warriors offer

The Edmonton Elks announced Monday, that the club has added former Starkville High School wide receiver Raphael Leonard to the active roster.

The Southern Illinois product Leonard, appeared in the Elks two preseason games, registering three catches for 48 yards.

Edmonton also added linebacker Enock Makonzo to the active roster.

In addition the Elks released defensive back Matt Elam and defensive back Ethan Makonzo from the active roster and quarterback Michael Beaudry, wide receiver Jalin Marshall and defensive back Malik Sonnier from the practice roster.

On Tuesday, the Elks announced a series of moves, including the addition of former Mississippi State linebacker Brian Cole II to the practice roster.

Cole comes to Edmonton after being released by the Saskatchewan Roughriders following the preseason. The six-foot-two linebacker was selected 249th overall by the Minnesota Vikings in the 2020 NFL draft, and also had stints with the Miami Dolphins and Carolina Panthers, dressing for pre-season games with the latter in 2021.

Collegiately, Cole played in 17 games for the Bulldogs in 2018 and 2019, recording 78 total tackles, 10.5 tackles for loss, three sacks, 12 quarterback pressures, two interceptions, four passes defended, one forced fumble and two fumble recoveries. He also returned 16 kicks for 329 yards.

Cole previously played one season at East Mississippi Community College, where he tallied 54 tackles, one sack, three forced fumbles, one fumble recovery for a touchdown and also blocked three kicks in 2016. He suited up for three games as a true freshman at Michigan in 2015, recording one reception in his NCAA debut.

The Golden State Warriors have tendered a Twoway qualifying offer to make former Mississippi State men's basketball player Quinndary Weatherspoon a restricted free agent on July 1, according to a National Basketball Association source.

Weatherspoon was on the practice squad for the Warriors and did not appear in the Finals when they defeated the Boston Celtics for the NBA Championship earlier this month.
