By JESSICA LINDSEY

As September winds down, the Golden Triangle begins to prepare for cooler weather and all the fun associated with October. From art to business to worthy causes, there is so much in store for the first official month of fall.

The Starkville Area Arts Council is starting the month out strong with the highly anticipated Cotton District Arts Festival this coming Saturday, October 2. The Saturday after that, October 9, The Farm at Starkville will hold its grand opening at 10 a.m. It is the only farm of its kind in Starkville in the fact it will offer fun fall activities for all including a corn maze, pumpkins, play areas, and even a big screen to watch football.

On October 9, the Straightened Crown will host their first ever dress drive at the Starkville Daily News office from noon until 5 p.m. If anyone has a formal dress they no longer wear and would like to donate it, the Straightened Crown will gladly accept the donation so a girl in the area without the means may attend prom.

Nearly a week after that, the Greater Starkville Development Partnership will host their fall unwine Downtown event. Participating stores will open their doors after hours to those with unwine tickets for sales and drinks.

On Friday, October 22, there will be a Trick-ortrot Fun Run at the T.K. Martin Center on the Mississippi State University campus next to the Longest Student Health Center. Registration will begin at 5 p.m. and the fun run will start at 6 p.m.

The day after, the entire family can enjoy the Halloween Market, which will be the Community Market with a spooky and fun twist. It will begin at 8 a.m., and there will be a pumpkin painting station, healthy trick-or-treating, face painting, and bounce houses. There will be a costume parade for children aged 10 and under that starts at 10 a.m. and a costume parade for pets that begins at 10:30 a.m.

On Sunday, October 24, there will be a fall festival at Morgan Chapel Baptist Church in Sturgis. The event lasts from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., and there will be free food, inflatables, and game booths.

The week leading up to Halloween is sure to be a fun packed one with MSU’S homecoming game on Saturday, October 30 and Halloween that Sunday, there will be trunk-ortreats, Halloween haunts, and other fall-themed activities for all to enjoy.
